Zero Waste Washing Up Liquid
Soap berries or soap nuts as they're more commonly known, have a multitude of uses, so when I ran out of washing up liquid, I decided to put them to the test. I was pleasantly surprised.
Firstly you'll need about 1 cup of soap nuts or approx 100gs.
Pop them in a pot and add 6 cups of water.
Bring to the boil and boil for 20 minutes.
Take off the heat and allow to cool completely.
Strain through a muslin cloth and sieve.
You can pop the soap nuts in the compost when you're done.
Get a suitable container. I had an old shampoo bottle with a pump like lid.
Pour into the bottle.
I use a few squirts per sink of dishes. The amount needed will depend on your water quality. More dish soap will be needed for harder water.
That's it. Some people add preservative but I find that it's fine without.
Have a happy dish washing life.
